The Art of Our Founder
When I traveled back home with our four children for a summer holiday, my dad convinced us to help him plant hundreds of seedlings. He liked to involve others in his projects, and he loved to plant trees. Years later, after our children grew up, I began making art in community, designing opportunities to help people discover their creative potential. With almost two decades of experience as a social practice artist, I began to understand how art had potential to help individuals grow and flourish, like my dad’s seedlings.
After founding Healing in Arts in 2016, my creative team and I continue to plant seeds of healing through our collaborative art. Our donor-funded work seeks to reach the people who are least served and most in need, including cancer patients, Congolese refugees, children on the autism spectrum, children enslaved in sex trafficking, and veterans struggling with PTSD. These various interactive projects cultivate a sense of community by demonstrating the value of each and every person. In our own way, we are following my dad’s legacy of planting something that will grow beyond our work and inspire others with hope.

Our Past Projects Inspire Future Programs
The Let Love Grow school workshop emphasized the importance of caring for our planet. For this project, students painted their own unique tree designs. Following the workshop, the students received a live tree sapling to take home and plant in their yards. This fun project, created in memory of Pamela’s dad, invited participants to let love grow in their lives by caring for our environment.
