The Art of Trauma Care
Healing in Arts offers creative care projects for the vulnerable, using art as a healing tool. The range of projects can be adjusted for budget, group size, and location. Our art team guides project participants step by step according to their age and ability, in person or via online platforms. We can partner with your licensed counselors or support staff, if desired. Whether working with veterans, incarcerated teens, special needs students, or other community groups, we celebrate the unique contribution of each participant—through creative expressions.
Our Past Projects Inspire Future Programs
Our trauma care workshop, Broken Wings prompted a healing discussion about the word “trust” as a group of incarcerated teens painted Plexiglas tiles. Though these teens had experienced broken families, abuse, abandonment, or even sex trafficking, they decided to take a risk and trust the artistic process. After painting six hundred individual tiles, the teens gathered to fit them together—one by one—until the butterfly image emerged. Their excitement grew as they each located the squares they had painted. The butterfly imagery expanded our discussion on resilience and trust, encouraging us to thrive in community, like the butterflies.
At-Risk Teens
To help navigate teen issues, Broken Wings promotes positive relationship skills like building trust, healthy boundaries, and respect for oneself and others. For this collective journey, participants produce an elegant butterfly mosaic constructed from hand-painted Plexiglas tiles or papers. Through natural conversations during the creative process, many individuals experience emotional growth and healing, making their wings a little more resilient.

Community Wellness
Let Go promotes wellness and flourishing. During this group exercise, individuals are encouraged to release negative thought patterns by writing Let Go notes. Next, participants have the opportunity to glue the notes onto small personal paintings or to construct a large community seascape mural, which symbolizes the release of daily concerns into the water. This healing art encourages individuals to reconcile their emotional conflicts and de-stress as a means to Let Go.

Healing Spaces
Awakening inspires forgiveness. For this art project, individuals weave a ring of flowers with a biodegradable note and release it into the water. The active gesture of resolving conflict gives emotional pain a healthy expression, while the ritual of placing a floral wreath in the water symbolizes a cleansing of the soul. By extending forgiveness to others, participants experience redemption and growth—awakening hope and healing.

Bullying and Kindness
Broken Wings, a workshop that deals with the topic of bullying, uses butterfly imagery to foster healing discussions. Like butterflies, our children grow resilient wings when dealing with unkind behavior and learning new strategies to overcome adversity. This hands-on work encourages kids to advocate for one another and solve their own social problems, diffusing negativity through the Butterfly Effect of Kindness.
